Beach Volleyball goes Free!
5th September 2008, News

Event organisers of the SWATCH FIVB U21 Beach Volleyball World Championships in Brighton have announced that tickets for the weekend's competition will be free of charge.

The move comes in a bid to encourage people to come out and watch the event after the first few days of play have been battered by wet and windy weather.  Despite the rain, matches have continued. The sun came out on Friday afternoon and work leavers filtered in to Centre Court to catch GB pairing Luke & Jake Sheaf play Australia.

The GB teams, who lack international experience, have failed to make it through to the second round of competition that begins on Saturday at 11am.  Top female teams from Australia, Germany, France, and the Netherlands have won all their games so far and have made it through to the knock out rounds.  In the men's tournaments the Italian title holders, Giontella & Nicolai, have dominated and have qualified for the next stage along with Finland, Poland and France.

Taking place at Nivea Sun Yellowave on Madiera Drive, this is the first time a world championships in beach volleyball has come to the UK.  With many international hopefuls for London 2012 taking part, this is your chance to get a glimpse of what was hailed as Beijing's 'hottest ticket' on your doorstep.

Ian Taylor from Brighton & Hove City Council said, "Brighton has put on a fantastic event so far despite the weather.  We have decided to make the tickets free to encourage people to come down and see what a great sport beach volleyball is and how much fun is being had.  With music and dance accompanying play on court, this is something not to be missed!"

Play will continue until 7pm tomorrow, with single elimination matches deciding who will make it through to the semi finals and final on Sunday.  Don't miss this unique opportunity to watch the top young players from around the world going head to head on Brighton Beach, and it's completely free!
